Fulton, IL, USA - The dedication
Saturday May 6, 2000 was a perfect day for dedicating a windmill: sunshine and sufficient wind for the sails to be able to turn.
Well ahead of the beginning of the dedication ceremony, people came that day to find their (family's) name on one of the engraved brick on the connection between the dike and "belt-level" of the windmill. The "Friends of the Windmill" are raising funds for the inner gears of the windmill by very succesfully selling brick with a name engraved into it for $60.
The dedication ceremony was one big success. The program included the unveiling of the windmill's name, speeches, the traditional act of releasing the break and cutting the ribbon plus entertainment like dance and singing.
After the dedication program the crowd had the opportunity to tour the windmill and to immerse in one of the most succesfull Dutch Days celebrations ever with parades and street scrubbing.
